Giving Away Free Money to Mitch - $750 to start a business

Mitch emailed me recently to request a small business loan to help build a start up company. I don't make loans and don't believe in encouraging anyone to go into debt to chase their dreams.

However, I do believe in the entrepreneurial spirit and working for one's self. 

I've earmarked $750 to support Mitch's idea and efforts. This is not a loan and not something to be repaid.

However, as with everything else in life, paying it forward is important. If Mitch achieves his goal and successfully builds his dream business, I hope he'll be able to help others in the future.

Free Money for Olivia from Vermont

My parents and I have been saving money for several years in order to pay for my college education. I'm still several thousand dollars short of my goal and I plan to enroll in the Fall of 2022 at a state university. Could you please consider assisting me with reaching my goal? I received Olivia's email and admired the fact that she and her parents
have been planning and saving in order to make her dreams come true. The cost of college is no small expense, and for most people, it requires years of saving, investment and sacrifice to pay for it.

With the cost of tuition, books, room and board and other expenses rising every year, it's more important now than ever before to find ways to pay for school that don't involve taking on massive debt at a young age (or any age, for that matter).

If your state has a College 529 plan, this is one of the smartest ways to save for your child's or grandchild's future. Saving a little bit each paycheck or making contributions to the account on a regular basis can really grow and add up over the course of 18 years.

Giving $500 to a family from California

I was emailed by the father of a family from southern California last week. They have struggled financially since the pandemic hit earlier this year and have fallen behind on some bills.

The father, who asked that I don't post the family's names, recently found a new job after being laid off in the spring. In order to keep getting to and from work, he needs reliable transportation. However, due to falling behind on payments, he was at risk of losing his car.

$500 will allow him to make two car payments and bring his bill close to current, and his first paycheck in a few weeks will get the family the rest of the way to getting right with the auto lender.

I'm an advocate of buying only as much car as you can afford, using cash, and avoid payments and interest. Yes, there are drawbacks to buying used. But once a car is paid for, it's yours. There's a sense of financial and life security that comes with knowing your car, your home or whatever else it is has been paid for and is YOURS. I highly advise avoiding car payments whenever possible. Your life will become far easier because of it.

$200 For Kelly's College Fund

Kelly from Utah recently messaged us to discuss her college plans. Given all of the upheaval in our world today, it's understandable that some young people are struggling with planning for their educations after high school.

There's no way of knowing if our world will eventually get back to "normal." But what is clear is that there is still a need for education and it can be very expensive to meet this need, whether attending community college or moving out of state for school, in-person or online.

Kelly asked if I would be willing to fund all or part of her education. I responded that I'd be able to make a small contribution of $200. This may not be a lot. It probably doesn't even buy two textbooks. But I hope it makes a small bit of difference in her four-year adventure that is soon to begin.

$125 Free Money to Nellie for Groceries

Nellie from Tennessee contacted me recently. In these unprecedented times, many people are struggling with life's daily expenses. As Nellie explained, she wanted to purchase groceries last week but was currently out of a job and needed assistance.

Sharing $250 with Juan From Arizona

I was recently contacted by a man from Arizona named Juan. His family has an unreliable automobile but they don't have the money to make payments on a brand new one.

I hope this small gift will help get Juan's family on the road to wherever they need to be going. It should cover a payment or two on a reliable, used car!

A Gift For A New Friend in Arizona

I'm continuing to read your letters and respond to some even though I've not done a great job of posting to the blog much this year.

I received an email from a person in Arizona who wished to remain completely anonymous.

This person's truck was in need of expensive repairs so that they could continue to drive to work each day. Unfortunately, even when we work, sometimes a paycheck just doesn't stretch far enough. So I've sent my new friend from Arizona $250 to use toward these critical repairs.

I received an email from a lady named Teresa in Kentucky. She lives with her two grandsons and explained that money is tight right now.

A Special Gift For Morgan From Arizona - Money For Education

I recevied a letter this week from a person named Morgan from Arizona. Morgan graduated from high school several years ago but never pursued a college education. The reality of adult life is that without education or training after high school, many career paths and doorways to opportunity remain closed.

The other reality is that education of any kind is pretty expensive these days. Tuition, books and materials and other fees can add up quickly, even for commuter students at community colleges or those attending classes online.

Morgan asked if I could contribute to his/her ambitions to obtain a degree. My answer was yes.

I will send Morgan $500 to use toward education expenses. It's a small part of what will be a very expensive but very worthwhile pursuit.

Money to support the independent arts

Today I've decided to contribute to an independent music internet radio station run by a man named Erik from Dunfermline, Scotland.

This small $50 gift will hopefully help Erik continue his efforts to share great music with people around the world.

You may have noticed that most of my publicized free money has gone to individuals in need or for very specific purposes. Occasionally, I like to change things up a bit. In this case, I happen to be a musician myself and Erik's cause really caught my attention.

The blind New York City man who credited his guide dog for saving his life Tuesday when he fell onto the subway tracks said he is going to be forced to give up his dog because the dog is nearing retirement and his insurance will no longer cover him.

The lab, named Orlando, will be 11 on Jan. 5, and will be retiring soon, Cecil Williams, 61, said. His medical benefits will cover a new guide dog but won't pay for a non-working dog, so he'll be looking for a good home for Orlando.

"If he had the money," Williams said, "I would definitely keep him."

Gofundme - interesting crowd sourcing web site I heard about today

The local radio morning show host brought this very interesting web site to my attention during today's show.

GoFundMe.com is what's known as a "crowdsourcing" site, where folks like us can raise money for worthy causes or even for ourselves.


I haven't done a thorough study of GoFundMe, but I like the spirit of the site. It seems to be organized and designed as a way to help those who need help. That's why I founded GivingAwayFreeMoney.com. The only difference is that you can personally solicit donations on GoFundMe, while I'm the one who funds you on my site.

Give it a look. You may find it to be another helpful tool if you are in need or know someone in need. Or perhaps, like me, you may even find a way to donate to someone else's need or cause.

Sharing $200 With Alyssa From Virginia For Health Insurance Premiums

I received a letter recently from a woman in Virginia named Alyssa. The subject was timely and it caught my attention.

As many of you know, November is often the enrollment time for health insurance coverage with many employers in the United States. Alyssa's letter described her selecting coverage for her family and the significant expense this creates for her budget every year.

Well this year, I wanted to do something to help out. I have decided to send Alyssa and her family $200 to apply toward their insurance premiums that they pay out of their own pocket.

While this may not cover all of the expense or even most of it, I hope it makes things just a little more manageable for Alyssa.

$120 for water bill, cell phone for Brenna

I recently spoke to Brenna about some of the challenges she's facing in her financial life. Brenna is a single, 20 year old woman. She hopes to be able to afford to purchase auto insurance so that she can drive her car again and look for a new job.

But first things first, she told me that she has a water bill and a cell phone bill to pay.
